How does Frontline Plus work? Frontline Plus consists of two main chemicals, Fipronil and S-Methoprene. Fipronil works by damaging the nervous system of fleas and ticks while S-Methoprene helps prevent flea eggs from hatching. It also contains inert chemicals which bind these two chemicals together.
“dogs treated with FRONTLINE Plus had 100% efficacy at the 12, 18, and 24 hour assessments on day 1 post treatment, and on days 7, 14, and 21 post-infestation. On day 28, 100% efficacy was achieved by 24 hours post-infestation, and efficacy was >99% at the 12 and 18 hour time points.”

Frontline Plus is an improvement over Frontline; it has an additional active ingredient called methoprene, which kills the eggs and larvae of fleas and ticks. With methoprene, Frontline Plus kills not only the adult but also the young fleas and ticks.
Pet Action Plus is Generic Frontline Plus. PetAction™ Plus has the exact same two active ingredients (Fipronil 9.8%, S-Methoprene 8.8%) as Frontline® Plus*, but sells for a fraction of the cost. PetAction™ Plus is fast-acting, long-lasting, waterproof, and easy to use.
Despite the fact that fipronil and methoprene are approved for use on both dogs and cats, there is a major difference between the two types of Frontline Plus. Comparing the two products, Frontline Plus for Cats has a higher concentration of active ingredients than the dog version.
Place applicator tip just above the skin and squeeze. Apply entire contents of applicator in a single spot directly onto dog's skin. Do not apply on top of hair coat. Avoid contact with treated area until dry.
FRONTLINE® Plus for Dogs kills adult fleas and ticks, prevents new infestations by killing flea eggs and larvae to break the flea lifecycle, and lasts for a full 30 days.
Frontline Plus boasts all of the benefits of the original Frontline Spot On product but it comes with a dual action formula that not only kills fleas and ticks on your pet but it also prevents the eggs from hatching in and around your home.

Frontline Plus and Top Spot are transported around the body of the treated pet within 24 hours of being applied. They are carried in the skin's oil layer and are deposited into the skin's sebaceous (oil) glands so they continue to release the product for the entire month of treatment.
Frontline starts working once the product has spread over the whole body surface, which can take up to 24 hours after application. Thereafter, fleas are killed within 24 hours and ticks killed within 48 hours.
In most cases, it will dry in an hour or two. It is best to avoid contact with the area though until it has dried. You may notice a "greasy" spot at the site of application for a few days after. This is normal and will resolve.
