The gate normally overlaps the fence posts or walls at each end making the gate a little wider, which is typically 50mm (2") at the closed end and 80mm (3 1/4") on the motor end but can be more or less depending on the layout of the fences, walls or posts and angle of the driveway.
The key difference is that a cantilever gate is a trackless gate system. Instead of sliding along a track, a cantilever gate is supported by rollers that are tucked behind the fencing and remains suspended when opening and closing.
Tracked sliding gates run along a fixed track, upon which the majority of the gate's weight is carried on wheels. The track is installed along the opening, running at the base of the gate, and the gate itself typically features automated operation.
Position the support post so that the arm (with the nylon roller) is inline with the edge of the pillar/ wall. The nylon rollers (attached to the support post) will then be set within the “U” rail thats attached to the sliding gate. This ensures the gate stay upright and opens/ closes with ease.
Normally I allow between 400 to 600mm from each end to install a Sliding gate wheel. I never install 3 wheels this can lift one of the end wheels off the track if on uneven ground and when the wheel comes down it might derail the gate.
Cut cardboard to fit length – if you are using multiple boxes you may need to Duct tape them together. Stand cardboard up and use flaps to stabilize (you can alternate the direction of each bottom flap for balance). Duct tape the top flaps together to make your gate more sturdy. Cover cardboard in Con-Tact paper.

Measure the door starting at the inside of the side jamb and extend the tape measure to the center stile at the opposite end. This measurement is the width. The height is determined by measuring at the top of the bottom track, the center, and the bottom. The smallest of the three measurements is the correct height.
How tall should a dog gate be? A dog gate is typically around 20 inches tall for small to medial dogs. For larger dogs who could potentially hop over that height, you're going to want something a few inches taller.
