Intramuscular injections may be made into your dog's lumbar muscles along his back, about 2 inches away from the spine. The quadriceps muscle at the front of your dog's thigh or the triceps muscle behind the bone of the front leg are also good locations to administer these vaccinations.
The County Department of Animal Services provides low-cost rabies vaccination and dog licensing services at it's two locations. If your dog is seriously ill, you may be able to get a rabies exemption.

Method. Most vaccines are given by subcutaneous (under the skin) or intramuscular (into the muscle) injection. Respiratory tract disease vaccination may be given intra-nasally (in the nose) in some cases.
Core Vaccinations Dogs receive the rabies injection on the right rear leg and receive the combination vaccine on the right front leg.
Choose a spot on your thigh or behind your hip for the shot. Check to make sure that the muscle isn't already sore from activity. If it is sore, you could have pain in the area after giving the shot. If the muscle is sore, pick a new area for the shot.

The Feb. 24 shooting took place around 9:40 p.m. as the dog walker was walking three French bulldogs north on Sierra Bonita Avenue in Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles police.
Parvo vaccines (and most other vaccines) are given subq (subcutaneously), meaning directly under the skin.
Insulin injections should be given just under the skin. Many dogs tolerate the injections well when given about one to two inches from the middle of the back, near the shoulder blade or hip bone. Be sure to alternate the location each time you give an injection to avoid soreness.
Puppies can receive their parvo vaccinations at 6, 8 and 12 weeks of age. They must receive a full series of vaccinations to ensure complete immunity. Puppies require a parvo booster vaccine between 14 and 16 weeks of age.
How often does a dog need a bordetella shot? Ask your veterinarian how often your dog will need the Bordetella vaccine. Our standard schedule recommends puppies receive the shot at 10 to 12 weeks old, with subsequent boosters at 14 to 16 weeks and 12 to 16 months, even though it's non-core.
By choosing to vaccinate your pet against rabies, you are not only protecting him from becoming unwell in the even that he is bit by a wild animal carrying the disease, you are also protecting other animals that he may come into contact with.
